Transition Houston and the Houston Peace and Justice Center announce Houston’s first Buy Local Independent Business Alliance Conference. On May 1st, 2010 local business people will gather to learn about the advantages of an Independent Business Alliance for the Houston Area. Activities will include setting up the framework of the Alliance and forming operating committees to create and support this organization. Local independent businesses and organizations interested in participating should pre-register on the conference site.
It’s Time! Make Houston Prosperous Now. The alliance will help develop a “Brand Houston,” building trust in and credibility for local independent businesses. Local First will foster innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship in a “high-tech, high-touch” human scale community, while connecting with our unique history and culture. Participants will develop:
Keynote Speaker: Jennifer Johnson, Boulder Independent Business Alliance (BIBA). Boulder, CO. After a long career as a business manager and community organizer, Jennifer joined BIBA in 2006 as Executive Director. BIBA established the first American Independent Business Alliance in 1988. BIBA is also an affiliate of BALLE, the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies. Jennifer will explain the benefits and logistics of developing successful independent business alliances and will help us jump-start the Houston organization.

Both organizations emphasize collaboration and networking to achieve objectives. This Alliance will provide a solid support foundation for local independent businesses and non-profits through collaborative sharing of capabilities and resources.
