Buy Local Business Alliance Conference - May 1, 2010

What Our Supporters Are Saying

“Buying local is a powerful decision. Local products often become a source of community pride, and can increase quality of life by creating local wealth, providing meaningful jobs and improving the tax base. Many local businesses are heavily engaged in their communities because their families, employees and customers are directly affected by the local economy and quality of life. As local jobs become harder to find and tightened consumer spending squeezes sales tax revenues and city and county budgets, the timing for a Conference on buying local is now.”

-- Houston Galveston Area Council

"Houstonians will make an irrevocable impact on our city when they choose to support locally owned businesses. I own a local green supply store that's committed to having a social, environmental and economic impact; our only chance for survival is if the local community decides it's important to support good local businesses.  It's all about "values based consumption", combined with maintaining Houston's Quality of Life."

-- Jeff Kaplan, New Living

Join us on May 1, 2010 for Houston's first Buy Local Business Alliance Conference.

On May 1st, 2010 local business people will gather to learn about the advantages of a Local Business Alliance. This partnership will help develop a “Brand Houston,” building trust in and credibility for local independent businesses. Activities will include setting up the framework of the Alliance and forming committees to create and support this organization.

The economic viability of the City of Houston and its surroundings depends on our locally owned businesses. When local businesses buy more from Houston based suppliers and increase the number of local customers, our region will become more self reliant. Local businesses link communities together and everyone in Houston benefits when the money we spend circulates through the hands of Houstonians.

The Business Alliance for Local Living Systems (BALLE) provides a framework which can be adapted to Houston’s local circumstances to promote

  • New sales connections between local businesses
  • An increase in local purchasing by member businesses
  • An increase in customers patronizing local businesses
  • An increase in contacts with other like-minded businesses

You and your business will want to be there to get in on the ground floor. You’ll have the opportunity to provide input and lend your expertise to create something that promotes and celebrates the uniqueness of Houston.
